Robotic Hysterectomy at Medical City Dallas Hospital

Getting you back to life faster

If your doctor recommends hysterectomy, you may be a candidate for da Vinci hysterectomy, one of the most effective, least invasive treatment options for a range of uterine conditions. Using the most advanced technology available today, the da Vinci® Surgical System allows your doctor to perform delicate and complex operations through a few tiny incisions with increased vision, precision, dexterity and control. This often results in less pain, a lower risk of infection, and quicker recoveries. Medical City is the first hospital in north Texas to perform single site robotic hysterectomies, a virtually scarless procedure with an even faster recovery time.

Single Site Robotic Hysterectomy

Medical City Dallas Hospital is the first hospital in north Texas to perform a single site robotic hysterectomy. Using the most advanced technology available today, Dr. Thomas Heffernan uses the da Vinci® Surgical System to perform the delicate and complex operation through one tiny incision in the navel. The navel nearly completely conceals any scarring.

Benefits of a Single Site Hysterectomy

In addition to nearly no scars, potential benefits of the single site hysterectomy also include minimal pain, low blood loss, fast recovery, a short hospital stay and high patient satisfaction. The surgery can be performed in about one hour with a typical hospital stay of 24 hours.

How the Surgery Works

During the procedure, the surgeon sits at a console, viewing a 3-D, high-definition image of the patient’s anatomy. The surgeon uses controls below the viewer to move the instrument arms and camera. In real-time, the system translates the surgeon’s hand, wrist and finger movements into more precise movements of the miniaturized instruments inside the patient.

A single incision is made in the patient’s navel, and the robotic arms are then inserted through one single site.
