What is a Liver / Spleen Scan?

A liver/spleen scan is a diagnostic exam to evaluate liver function for the detection of cancer or cirrhosis.  Small radioactive isotope of 99mTc-Sulfer Colloid is used.

Indication

Abnormal liver enzymes
History of cancer
Alcohol abuse
Jaundice
Hepatitis
Hypertension

Preparation

No barium exams prior to exams

Expectation

You will be in the department for 45 minutes for injection and scan
Multiple images for Liver/Spleen will be taken
LAO, RAO, ANT, POST, LPO, RPO views
