Parent Education Classes at Medical City Dallas in partnership with North Dallas Doula Associates (Winners of Best Childbirth Class in Dallas 2017) would like to congratulate you on your decision to deliver at Medical City Dallas Hospital! We want to support you in your decision to become prepared and educated for your childbirth experience. Through education you will gain important knowledge about what to expect and how to prepare for your big day. Our parent education classes are offered to not only the expectant parents but also to grandparents and siblings as well. This is an exciting time for you AND your entire family. We look forward to having you join us and our specialized nurse educators as we help prepare you and your loved ones for your upcoming delivery.
Maternity Tours are offered twice a month on Saturday. We will meet in the lobby of Building D. For the safety of our patients, you will not be allowed to tour our Maternity areas unless you are accompanied by our Registered Nurse. Due to the large number of attendees, we can only accommodate the expectant parents...no children or other family members please. Tours are provided in the Prepared Childbirth class, Unmedicated Prepared Childbirth class, and Sibling Class; therefore if you are already registered to take these classes, you will not need to sign up for an additional tour.
Prepared Childbirth Class
This class was designed to help first time mothers navigate their hospital birth experience.
Topics of discussion include: Signs and symptoms of labor, phases and stages of labor, comfort measures for labor, questions to ask during a hospital tour, medically necessary reasons for induction, avoiding unnecessary interventions, cesarean section, epidural anesthesia, and a brief overview of breastfeeding, postpartum and the 4th trimester.
Week one: Physiology and Anatomy, reasons to be concerned, signs and symptoms of labor, phases and stages of labor
Week two: Hospital tour, interventions, cesarean section
Week three: Immediate postpartum & perinatal mental health, what to pack
Class is offered in a 1 day format or a 3 week series.
Cost is $125 per couple.
Unmedicated Prepared Childbirth Class
Our class was designed and created by an experienced Lamaze childbirth educator who believes that birth is normal, natural, and healthy. Couples will be prepared for a low intervention, unmedicated, natural birth in a hospital setting after attending this class.
Topics of discussion include: Signs and symptoms of labor, phases and stages of labor, comfort measures for labor, questions to ask during a hospital tour, medically necessary reasons for induction, avoiding unnecessary intervention, cesarean sections, anesthesia, a brief overview of breastfeeding, breathing and relaxation techniques and visualization, post-partum and the 4th trimester.
Week one: Physiology and anatomy, reasons to be concerned, signs and symptoms of labor, relaxation exercise
Week two: Phases and stages of labor, interventions, cesarean section, interactive visualization
Week three: Hospital tour, what to pack, breathing and relaxation exercise
Week four: Immediate post-partum and perinatal mental health, comfort measures, breathing relaxation
Class is offered in a 4 week series or 1 day format.

eLearning Parent Education
We recognize that life is busy. Balancing work schedules, home life and parent education classes can be difficult. We are pleased to offer an alternative to our traditional classroom education offerings. eLearning can be taken as a refresher class for the experienced parent or as a preparation class for first time parents. Through eLearning, you can pace yourself and learn when it is convenient to your schedule. Whether it's at home in a comfortable chair on a Sunday afternoon or in the middle of the night when you can't sleep, our eLearning classroom is always open!
Prepared to Push Class
Join us for a class specifically designed in addition to your childbirth class to provide added tools and focus to help you through your labor and delivery experience. We will assist you in using relaxation techniques, pressure points, massage techniques, and breathing designed for all stages of labor, delivery, pushing, and delivery. Learn to identify signs of fetal malposition, prodromal labor, and productive pushing options. Find ways to create a calm environment to insure hormonal abundance, release of endorphins, and connect with your partner.
This class is recommended for those seeking a vaginal birth or VBAC delivery.
We recommend taking the class in your third trimester following prepared childbirth class or as use as a childbirth refresher.

Baby Care Basics
This class is designed to prepare you to care for your newborn. Class included first day of life expectations, newborn appearance, comforting baby, diapering, bathing & skin care, healthy sleep, circumcision, feeding options and common newborn procedures.

Congratulations! You have made the decision to breastfeed your new baby. Breastfeeding offers many benefits to babies and mothers. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends exclusive breastmilk for the first six months of your baby's life. Medical City is committed to providing you with the help and information needed to get off to the very best start.
The two most important factors in successfully meeting your breastfeeding goals are knowledge and commitment. In this class we will discuss what to expect when parenting a breastfed infant, how to prepare to breastfeed, pitfalls and "booby traps" to avoid, and where to go for support and help along the way.
The class is for the expectant mother and her partner. We will use videos, handouts and dialogue to teach how to set your family up for breastfeeding success, normal newborn behavior, safe sleep, and how to correct common problems in the early days.
Cost is $50 per couple.
Pumping for Your NICU Baby
The benefits of breast milk are vast and even more important for your NICU baby. We want to help you be successful with feeding your baby your pumped breast milk. Our breast pumping class with provide you with knowledge and skills on establishing a pump schedule, assembling and cleaning the breast pump, milk storage and feeding pumped breast milk.
Due to the sensitive and delicate nature of our patients, a tour will not be included and children are not permitted to join you in class.

Little Bit Yoga
Little Bit Yoga is a great opportunity for new moms to bond with their babies and other mothers. The class teaches basic yoga poses that focus on strength and relaxation. Babies are included as participants and observers. You'll love to see them socialize! Please join us for an always entertaining and often unpredictable yoga experience. Baby Bump Yoga
Medical City Women's prenatal yoga, set in a calm and peaceful environment, will focus on the breath, the body, and your baby. Relaxation and breathing exercises will allow you to connect with your body's innate wisdom. Gentle stretching poses prepare you for labor while strengthening poses provide necessary stamina. Yoga may help alleviate many of the discomforts of pregnancy by improving circulation, strengthening pelvic muscles and increasing overall comfort. A safe and open atmosphere encourages discussion of any concerns, as well the exciting changes of pregnancy. Prenatal yoga is an opportunity to relax your mind, strengthen your body and prepare for childbirth. Each class will be led by a certified professional yoga instructor. Classes are held Monday and Wednesday evenings at Medical City Children's Hospital Classrooms. All participants must complete the medical release form prior to attending class.
A fun and interactive class for new moms and their babies in their first year of life together. Participate in classes presented by Gymboree, Play Wisely, Kindermusik, Stroller Strides and many more.
Sibling Class I
This course includes topics like how to be a good brother or sister, newborn needs and sharing. Join us as we learn age appropriate concepts and some seriously silly presentations to help younger children prepare for their new sibling. This class is suitable for ages 3-6. Class includes a tour for the maternity unit. An adult must accompany child.
Cost is $20 per child.
Sibling Class II
Ahoy! What do a pirate, a parrot and a baby have in common? They are all part of our sibling II class. Join us as we prepare your lassie or buccaneer for their new sibling! This course is for the older sibling, suitable for ages 6 and up. Class includes a tour of the maternity unit. An adult must accompany child.
Cost is $20 per child.

This is what we call "man time".
During the class, dads will learn tips and tricks to calm their baby, ways to bond, and learn to read their baby's needs. They will be given insight on the changes a new baby brings to their partner, their relationship, and what to expect the first few weeks at home.
Our new dads will be geared up for the big day and every day thereafter as they are about to embark on the greatest adventure of all...Fatherhood!

Car Seat Safety
Nearly half of kids' car seats are installed incorrectly!
Let us help you feel comfortable taking your baby home from the hospital. Using your car seat correctly is the best way to protect your child while traveling.
Taught by a certified care seat safety technician, we will give guidance on how to choose your car seat, discuss features and help you properly secure your infant using a manikin. You will also gain knowledge on when to transition your child to another seat.
Cost is $45.
AHA Friends and Family CPR
What would you do if your child or a loved one began to choke or stop breathing? Come learn the lifesaving skills needed in these kinds of emergencies. You will receive instruction based on the American Heart Association guidelines covering CPR with AED and choking for adults, children, and infants.
This class is for those who want to learn CPR but do not need to be certified to meet a job requirement. Ideal for new parents, grandparents, babysitters, and anyone interested in learning how to save a life.
Registrants will receive a handbook upon completion for reference.
Instructor is AHA certified.
