Purpose and Objectives
The purpose of the Congenital Heart Surgery Case Conference is to continually improve the care of patients undergoing congenital heart surgery by educating the medical staff and providing consultative services. Emphasis will be placed on diagnoses, recognition of cardiac defect via echocardiogram and heart catheterization, development of plan of care and discussion of planned surgical procedure.
Specific Objectives of Each Case Conferences:
- Review and discuss patient’s history and physical
- Review and discuss diagnostic studies
- Perform a pre-surgical evaluation
- Define surgical and post-surgical treatment plan
- Discuss appropriate follow-up information
- Discuss other interesting cases for evaluation and management of treatment plan
Target Audience
These case conferences will be targeted to physicians on the hospital medical staff who diagnose, treat, or manage patients with congenital heart defects. This includes both pediatric and adult thoracic surgeons, cardiologists, anesthesiologists, intensivists, neonatologists, pharmacists, and pediatric clinical geneticists.
Accreditation
Medical City Dallas Hospital is accredited by the Texas Medical Association to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
